Despite receiving mixed reviews, Starfield is already garnering significant attention based on data from Steam and Twitch.
It comes as no surprise that Starfield is currently the hottest topic in gaming circles. It ranks among the most highly anticipated games of the year and claimed the top spot on Steam’s sales charts even before its early access period began this morning.
As of this moment, it continues to maintain that position and boasts impressive player statistics, which are expected to surge further when Starfield officially launches next week.

In less than 24 hours, it has already become the sixth most played game on Steam, peaking at 234,502 concurrent players (representing the number of people playing simultaneously). This is quite an achievement, especially considering some players encountered initial technical difficulties.
Admittedly, these numbers don’t quite match the peak player counts of Bethesda’s last two role-playing games. For instance, when Skyrim, the last Elder Scrolls game, launched in 2011, it reached a peak of 287,411 concurrent players. Fallout 4, released in 2015, performed even better, reaching a peak of 472,962 players.
However, it’s essential to remember that Starfield is currently in early access, meaning not everyone has access to it. It will be intriguing to see if its peak player count surpasses these older games once it becomes available at its regular price.
Moreover, the early access phase might prove advantageous for both Starfield and Bethesda, as it allows people to stream unfiltered gameplay on Twitch, exposing Starfield to a broader audience.

When examining Twitch viewership numbers, Starfield is surpassing both Skyrim and Fallout 4, which peaked at 197,907 concurrent viewers and 244,138 concurrent viewers, respectively, according to SteamDB.
In contrast, Starfield reached a peak of 543,234 concurrent Twitch viewers, indicating significant curiosity surrounding the game.
SullyGnome, an analytics website, reveals that Starfield has swiftly become the top trending game on the platform, amassing approximately 3,576,045 hours of Starfield-related streams watched. This is more than double the hours spent watching the runner-up, Dota 2, over the past three days.
Additionally, Starfield has become one of the most-watched games on Twitch in the last three days, just breaking into the top 10. While it still lags behind long-standing titles like Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto 5, the fact that it reached 10th place in less than a day is impressive in its own right.
It’s still too early to gauge Starfield’s sales performance, but the initial indicators appear positive overall, even if the reviews so far haven’t matched the euphoria that Microsoft and Bethesda may have anticipated.
