Funko Fusion

Funko Pop figures, the beloved collectibles that have taken over the toy industry, are now taking over the video game world. The upcoming release of Funko Fusion promises to be a singular experience that will bring together a range of pop culture properties, including Back to the Future, The Umbrella Academy, Masters of the Universe, and Shaun of the Dead, all in one game. Developed by 10:10 Games, founded by former TT Games staff, Funko Fusion will offer players an opportunity to engage in silly, toy-based gameplay as they battle enemies, explore vast environments, and solve puzzles.

In the first trailer for Funko Fusion, the viewer is introduced to a peculiar prospect that combines family-friendly fare like He-Man with the chaotic carnage of dinosaurs eating Funko Pop people and the shock horror of Dr. Copper having both of his arms amputated by the Norris monster from John Carpenter’s The Thing. It’s a slightly darker take on the formula of toy-based games, but it offers a great opportunity to introduce kids to the world of horror.

Arthur Parsons, 10:10 Games’ design director and co-founder, expressed his excitement about the upcoming release in a news release, saying, “Harnessing the incredible properties we’ve been entrusted with by our friends at Universal Games and Digital Platforms, creating a gaming experience that is tremendously entertaining, unexpected, genuine, and embraces fans like never before, all through a Funko perspective.”

Funko Fusion will include hundreds of Funko Pop! playable characters from iconic NBCUniversal storylines, including Universal’s famed monsters, as well as unreleased titles. Players can expect an experience similar to other popular toy-based games like Lego Star Wars and Lego Harry Potter, with recreated movie moments in silly toy form. Online multiplayer will let up to four players immerse themselves in pop culture mashups.

Funko Fusion is expected to be released sometime in 2024 on PC and consoles. Given the broad reach of the Funko brand, it’s sure to be available on every console. Funko has previously dabbled in the video game world with Gears Pop, a mobile real-time strategy game based on Microsoft’s Gears of War franchise, which was released in 2019 and shut down in 2021. The company also publishes tabletop games, many of which are based on popular franchises, including Fast and Furious, The Goonies, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic World, and The Warriors.

Funko itself is a 25-year-old company that began by making Big Boy banks and bobbleheads based on Austin Powers and breakfast cereal mascots. Hundreds of characters from movies, TV, comic books, anime, and video games have been licensed by the firm over the years, and it has become a mainstay of pop culture retailers such as Hot Topic and GameStop. In 2019, Warner Bros and Funko announced an animated film based on the Funko Pop brand.

Funko Fusion promises to be a chaotic adventure through pop culture madness. With its blend of silly gameplay, beloved characters, and unexpected mashups, it’s sure to be a hit with Funko fans of all ages. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Back to the Future or a lover of all things horror, Funko Fusion is a game that’s not to be missed. So mark your calendars for the release in 2024, and get ready to immerse yourself in the world of Funko Pop!
