Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its Cyberpunk franchise with the highly anticipated Phantom Liberty DLC. Just a few weeks ago, the studio announced “Update 2.0,” which is set to introduce both the new DLC and a range of in-game improvements for Cyberpunk 2077. Now, CD Projekt Red has shared some insights into the revamped in-game police system that will accompany the DLC.

In a detailed blog post, CD Projekt Red emphasized that the forthcoming changes will extend to the base game on PC, Xbox Series, and PS5, not just those who acquire the Phantom Liberty DLC. These changes will be part of a free upgrade bundled with the DLC, now collectively referred to as ‘Cyberpunk 2077 2.0.’

In their blog post, CD Projekt Red explained, “We’ve reconstructed the system based on clear, straightforward principles: criminal actions will be met with consequences, runners will be pursued, and cyberpsychos will be neutralized without hesitation. All aspects of the system are designed to enhance transparency and reinforce the straightforward yet expanded prevention process.”

The upcoming update represents a significant departure from Cyberpunk’s existing police system, where players are typically flagged by law enforcement only for committing severe offenses, with their wanted level escalating as they evade capture.

However, in Cyberpunk 2.0, reaching the maximum heat level will trigger encounters with Max Tac mini-bosses, available in various archetypes. The Night City Police Department will show no mercy in their pursuit of players, rejecting any offers of surrender or bribery.

Elaborating further, CD Projekt Red stated, “For those who choose to flee, we’ve prepared thrilling car chases and roadblocks to increase the challenge of escaping. Players will receive clear cues indicating when the police are no longer pursuing them. NPCs will disperse naturally and intuitively, allowing players to evade them by either fleeing on foot or making a quick getaway by vehicle. Just be sure to stay out of their line of sight.”

The Phantom Liberty expansion is scheduled to launch on September 26, bringing a wealth of new content and gameplay enhancements. Additionally, vehicular combat, inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and subtle references to The Witcher will be incorporated into the game. However, players should note that CD Projekt Red has raised the game’s PC system requirements to accommodate these features.
