One of the most exceptional Metroidvania titles is receiving some exciting DLC content, drawing inspiration from one of the earliest Metroidvania classics, and it’s all thanks to a renowned Castlevania developer.

Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night, a spiritual successor to the beloved Castlevania series, continues to thrive in the gaming world, amassing over two million in sales as an indie sensation. To commemorate this achievement, the game’s former Castlevania producer, Koji Igarashi, has unveiled an array of upcoming additions for this smash hit, which include two multiplayer modes and an epilogue paying homage to one of the pioneers of the Metroidvania genre.

In a video update featured below, Igarashi, along with director Shutaro Iida, offers a sneak peek at the game’s forthcoming VS and Chaos modes. Chaos appears to be a cooperative mode that challenges players with hordes of monsters while limiting their special abilities. On the other hand, VS mode pits players against each other in a competition to achieve the highest score, achieved by dispatching enemies as quickly as possible.

In a statement on the game’s website, a blog post begins with an apology for the extended delay between updates, attributing it to the development team’s dedication to crafting the new VS and Chaos modes, which mark the game’s first foray into online multiplayer gameplay. This endeavor, although challenging and unexpected, is steadily progressing, with the new content nearing completion. Fans can look forward to more insights into these modes on September 14th.

However, what may be even more thrilling is an upcoming mode on the horizon. The video update concludes with a teaser for Bloodstained’s second classic mode, named “Dominique’s Curse.” This mode draws inspiration from the beloved Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and serves as an epilogue to the main game, casting players in the role of Dominique, a character known for her villainous role in Bloodstained.

The developers, with their rich history, show no intention of halting their development efforts.
