We’re excited for 20 Best Upcoming Games in 2023! Here’s a list of 20 titles that we can’t wait to play. From AAA blockbusters to VR adventures and wholesome indie games, there’s something here for everyone. So settle in and get ready for a journey of anticipation.
1 Forspoken
Starting off our list is square enix’s Forspoken from luminous games the team behind Final Fantasy XV Forspoken follows the Journey of Frey a young New Yorker transported to the beautiful and cruel land of Athea in search of a way home fremas used her New found magical abilities to Traverse sprawling Landscapes and battle monstrous creatures in our recent preview we found that the game was at its best when it was the most freeing allowing you to make the most of its extensive combat abilities and magical parkour skills and giving you the ability to explore the wide open planes and crumbling ruins of Athea at your own pace if you can’t wait until the 24th of January though there’s a purpose-built demo available on PS5 to wet your appetite until then.
2 Dead Space
27th of January is great for sees the return of the Sci-Fi survival horror classic Dead Space which has been completely rebuilt from the ground up the game promises jaw-dropping visual Fidelity with its Arts character models lighting and visual effects all having been refined to bolster The Fear Factor on Modern systems the game will all be one sequential shot from beginning to end meaning that there are no camera Cuts or load screens unless unless you die of course which will probably happen quite a lot so yeah there’s probably going to be a fair few of those oh dear never watch out for the monsters.
3 Darkest Dungeon 2
Darkest Dungeon 2 is currently in Early Access, and is set to have its 1.0 release in February. It’s a tough Gothic RPG that focuses on the stress of dungeon crawling. You’ll lead a team of heroes through a treacherous side-scrolling descent, facing countless threats to their physical and mental wellbeing. This isn’t a game about being heroic – it’s a game about surviving. With its more roguelike feel, darkest dungeon will always tempt you into having just one more go.
4 Wo Long Fallen Dynasty
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty was one of the hottest games at EGX 2022 not just because it was next to the radiators haha that was a joke with constant lines and people repeatedly going back for more from Team ninja and the producers of Neo and bloodborne the game is a dark souls-like set in China’s Three Kingdoms albeit a fantasy version of these baked by demons and and featuring swordplay inspired by martial arts combat certainly appears fluid and graceful with its evasive spins and balletic leaps with some impressively animated summons and Magic too.
5 Star Wars Jedi Survivor
The Story of Cal Kestis continues in Star Wars Jedi Survivor the sequel to 2019’s Fallen order this narratively driven single player titled picks up five years after the events of the original and follows cows increasingly desperate fight as the Galaxy descends further into darkness Survivor looks to expand on Fallen order’s ideas combat and world with additional force abilities new lightsaber fighting styles and a whole host of new planets and familiar Frontiers hopefully reaching the potential that the original occasionally fell short of.
6 Resident Evil 4 Remake
Resident Evil 4 Remake is as you might have imagined a remake of the 2005 original Resident Evil 4 reimagined for 2023. the Remake preserves the essence of the original game while introducing modernized gameplay a reimagined storyline and vividly detailed Graphics which should do more than enough to justify playing yet another version of Resident Evil 4.
7 System Shock Remake
it’s another horror remake next this time of Looking Glass Studios 1994 Masterpiece System Shock it’s been a long time since the game initially sought funding on Kickstarter back in 2016 but after a period of Rocky development it’s now on track for release at some point in March System Shock will combine cult gameplay with all new HD visuals updated controls and overhauled interface and all-new sounds and music including the original voice actor of Rogue AI Hodan one of Gaming’s most iconic villains System Shock is one of those games that everyone should play and hopefully this remaster will allow a whole new set of players to explore Citadel station.
8 Dead Island 2
Eight years since its initial unveiling and multiple delays later Dead Island 2 is finally almost upon us bringing with it a unique formula of horror dark humor and over-the-top zombie slang spanning an epic pulp adventure and just as promised Dead Island 2 most certainly is Gory with its rapidly disintegrating cast of reanimated Undead having to suffer the indignity of poles through heads fists through skulls and much much more additionally players can make use of their own zombie Powers thanks to a bite on the arm letting them enter a devastating frenzy state for additional zombie mutilation you can explore these zombified streets of LA from the 24th of April either Solo or with friends so prepare your zombie survival kit because you’ll need it.
9 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Perhaps the most highly anticipated game on this list Legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom is slated for release on the 12th of May despite its relatively close release date though we don’t know all that much about the breath of the wild sequel this time the setting for Link’s Adventure has been expanded to include the skies above the vast lands of Hyrule footage of the game’s world has shown numerous floating land masses and a corrupted Hyrule Castle apparently ripped from the ground we can’t wait to get our hands on this one and will no doubt be shedding tears of joy upon its release.
10 Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
The latest from Rocksteady Suicide Squad kill the Justice League features an original narrative set within the expansive open world city of the Metropolis there are four playable characters making up the Squad Harley Quinn Deadshot king shark and Captain Boomerang Each of which has their own unique move set with enhanced traversal abilities to freely explore Metropolis along with a variety of weapons to customize and skills to master the game puts the four super villains on a collision course with an invading Alien Force and of course the Justice League who are now laser focused on destroying the city that they once vowed to protect.
11 Street Fighter 6
Promising to Herald a new era for fighting games Street Fighter 6 is due for release on the 2nd of June the street fighter Series has always been about Evolution and Innovation and six looks to be no different with highly evolved graphics and a new combat system that promises to allow you to feel the real dynamics and tension of each fight scene the game is set to be the series is most accessible yet with its three different control schemes including a new Dynamic control scheme that makes button mashing effective sounds like I might finally have found the fighting game for me then.
12 Diablo IV
Diablo IV is coming out on June 6th. It’s the latest installment in the action role-playing series from Blizzard Entertainment. You can expect lots of demon-slaughtering gameplay, diabolical abilities to master, nightmarish dungeons to explore, and legendary loot to acquire. This vast open world is full of adventure and devastation, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it!
13 Baldur’s Gate 3
With its launch in August Baldur’s Gate 3 will have finally arrived just shy of three years after it first appeared in Steam Early Access a lot has happened in its time there of course a lot of tweaking and tuning and honing the experience of the game its popularity allowed Larion to breathe and make Baldur’s Gate 3 a bigger better thing and it looks to be set to be the best Dungeons and Dragons game of all time just for Giggles the August 2023 date also means that Baldur’s Gate 3 arrived 23 years after Baldur’s Gate 2 and 25 years after the original Boulders gate I imagine you’re probably not laughing if you remember those because it means you’re really old.
14 Hades 2
In a first for developer supergiant games the team is making a sequel and oh what a sequel it looks to be in Hades too as Melanie The Immortal princess of the underworld you’ll battle beyond the underworld using dark sorcery as you take on these Sinister Titan of time in an all-new action-packed endlessly replayable experience rooted in the Underworld of Greek mythology and its deep connections to the dawn of Witchcraft as with the original the art style and combat look fantastic in Hades too and there looks to be plenty of characters for the internet to lust over upon its release.
15 The Wolf Among Us 2
The Wolf Among Us was arguably the best of the tattletale games based on the comic series fables it saw a world where fairy tale characters are real and walk among us The Wolf Among Us too picks up the story some six months after the end of the original game as protagonist Big B wolf adjusts to his new life now he’s no longer the sheriff of fabletown trouble is brewing once more though and the Wolf Among Us too will take Big B on a mid-winter Adventure spanning Two Worlds as the secret of fabletown and the New York City in which it hides and into the path of an NYC detective struggling to solve a case of her own The Wolf Among Us 2 is currently deep in production and on track for a 2023 launch with Telltale insisting it’ll only ship it when it’s right.
16 The Outlast Trials
The Outlast Trials is set in the era of the Cold War where human guinea pigs are involuntarily recruited by the good Folks at the murkoff corporation to test Advanced methods of brainwashing and mind control in a world of distrust fear and violence your morals will be challenged your endurance tested and your sanity crushed in the first for the Outlast series you can choose to complete the trials by yourself or you can tackle them in a team of two three or four players meaning you and a few friends can join in the terror together.
17 Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksong is an upcoming game that was originally developed as DLC for the award-winning action-adventure game, Hollow Knight. However, it has since been spun out into its own standalone game. In it, the player takes on the role of the lethal Hunter Hornet as she journeys to new lands, discovers new powers, and battles vast hordes of bugs and beasts. The world of Silksong feels very much tailored to Hornet’s playstyle, so it should be new and exciting to traverse, while still maintaining the fluidity and familiar level design of the original game.
18 Lies of P
Published by neowiz and developed by round 8 Studio Lies of P has a brutal and dark world and the kind of action role-playing gameplay established by from software’s Soul Series in short it looks like bloodborne with Pinocchio as the playable character it’s inspired by the classic Italian novel Pinocchio from Carlo collodi and it’s set in the once beautiful city of Kratt you fight hideous and twisted automatons as P Searchers for Mr Geppetto and works to reverse the Calamity that has befallen cracked as you’d expect from Pinocchio telling Porky’s plays a big factor in the game affecting interactions with
NPCs who trust who will help you along the journey the types of enemies you come across and ultimately the ending of the game.
19 Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set in Baghdad and begins in the year 861 when the city was a bustling metropolis and a commercial and cultural crossroads serving as the perfect dense Urban hunting ground for the hidden ones the game will follow Basim IBN ishak who you may recognize from Valhalla as he rises through the ranks of the proto-assassins and Crosses paths with the order of the Ancients the group which would post Valhalla become the Templars Mirage hopes to renew the spirit of the
original Assassin’s Creed with Baghdad providing a linear story across several distinct City districts which should sound very familiar to anyone who played the series as first entry.
20 Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
And last but by no means least we have Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac the eagerly awaited sequel to 2018’s acclaimed open world swing Em Up will arrive on PS5 next fall which is something Peter Parker probably doesn’t want to be doing although Insomniac is holding plenty of details back for a later reveal we do know that it’ll see Peter Parker and Miles Morales star of insomniac’s 2020 Spidey follow-up reuniting to battle Venom in an installment that’s said to be a darker Empire Strikes Back style Sequel.
There we have it 20 games that are looking really promising for 2023. I’m already looking forward to PSVR 2 in February, but there are so many other Great Games coming out this year.
