Skate Reboot

After more than a decade of anticipation, EA’s upcoming Skate reboot has finally given fans a sneak peek of its top-secret map, and it’s causing a stir in the skating game community.

The leaked map, which surfaced from a closed playtest, may appear on the smaller side at first glance, but don’t be fooled! Skateboarding games are known for their densely packed parks and skating-friendly spots between streets, promising endless exploration.

But that’s not all – the map hints at the possibility of a massive open world. A mysterious cut-off bridge on the upper left side and the presence of icons representing other players align perfectly with Skate’s free-to-play live service model.

EA’s Skate franchise, inspired by the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, took the gaming world by storm in the late 2000s, earning a special place in gamers’ hearts.

After a decade-long hiatus, Skate fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of their beloved franchise. In the summer of 2020, EA finally answered their prayers with the announcement of a new Skate game. Developed by Full Circle, a brand-new studio created solely for this revival, and led by some of the original creators of Skate, this title is set to be a game-changer. It’s confirmed to be free-to-play with a live service model and will be available on both PC and Mac.

Now, passionate Skate enthusiasts have been granted a tantalizing glimpse of the new game’s map, or at least a portion of it. LetsTalkGaming, an account on Twitter, shared an image of Skate’s map from an official closed playtest they were part of. The grayscale map boasts multiple streets and various icons pinned to it, including bus stops and potential player locations.

While the leaked map might seem compact, the Skate franchise has always excelled in creating smaller, action-packed worlds. Although there are only a handful of streets visible, these skating games are notorious for cramming parks and skating havens in every nook and cranny. The right side of the map showcases a massive building-like structure that could be a mall or an indoor paradise full of rails and stairs for epic tricks. It’s entirely plausible that this leaked map is just a fraction of a larger open world, given the oddly cut-off bridge on the upper left side. The icons representing other players also make perfect sense in the context of Skate’s free-to-play live service approach.

It’s been over three years since EA’s thrilling Skate announcement, and fans are itching for more information. Skate has been in playtesting for over a year, which begs the question: when can we expect to see more? With progress hopefully on track, it wouldn’t be surprising to catch a glimpse and hear more about Skate at an upcoming EA Play showcase. Stay tuned for the latest updates on this highly anticipated reboot!
