One of the advantages of being at the top of the gaming industry is the ability to orchestrate epic crossovers without the hassle of negotiations. Blizzard has shown this with their recent Call of Duty x Diablo crossover for a Halloween-themed update. Now, they’re taking it a step further by merging two of their most talked-about titles.

The forthcoming Overwatch 2 season, titled “Rise of Darkness,” will debut on October 10, and it’s bringing a hellish horde of Diablo 4-themed cosmetics to the game. The teaser provides a sneak peek at Moira’s transformation into Diablo 4’s main antagonist, Lilith. Additionally, it introduces a spookier version of the beloved Halloween PvE event mode, Junkenstein’s Revenge, and new themed skins for Widowmaker and Echo, along with a Mythic skin for Hanzo. Season 7 will also introduce the new Overwatch 2 control map, Samoa.

This isn’t the first time Overwatch 2 has dabbled in Diablo crossovers. In the past, players have enjoyed Diablo-themed skins such as Butcher Roadhog, Demon Hunter Sombra, and Barbarian Zarya. Moreover, Overwatch 2 has seamlessly incorporated crossovers from other popular Blizzard franchises, including World of Warcraft and StarCraft.

With crossovers now in place for both Call of Duty and Overwatch 2, it’s evident that Blizzard Entertainment is dedicated to sharing the Diablo 4 experience with as many players as possible. However, revitalizing Diablo 4’s player base is no small task. The game is currently facing challenges in terms of its community engagement and Twitch viewership. It will take more than just crossover skins to rekindle interest in the game.

On the flip side, Diablo crossovers into other games are thriving. Despite initial backlash and review bombing, Overwatch 2 continues to be one of the most-watched games on Twitch. For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the same is true.

The question remains whether Blizzard will dare to introduce crossovers from Call of Duty and Overwatch 2 into Diablo 4. Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 fans have something else to look forward to: BlizzCon 2023 on November 3. For the first time in four years, the conference is returning to an in-person format.

The event promises exciting announcements, including the revelation of the next World of Warcraft developments by Chris Metzen, who has recently returned to guide the franchise. Additionally, Blizzard will unveil its latest tank hero and provide more insights into the future of Diablo 4 following the release of Season 2, “Season of Blood,” on October 17. This season’s initial announcement at Gamescom 2023 received a lukewarm reception. Finally, there’s the possibility that Microsoft and Activision Blizzard may conclude the event with a formal announcement about their acquisition, though that remains speculative.
