Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase has provided an update on the game’s development, stating that it is “progressing smoothly” and that a release date will be shared soon.

Rebirth is the second installment in the three-part Final Fantasy 7 remake project, which began with 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The game was originally announced in June 2022 with a release window of “Winter 2023.”

With Final Fantasy 16 set to be released on June 22, 2023, it is possible that Square Enix will opt for an early 2024 release for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, in order to give fans enough time to experience both games.

In addition to providing an update on development, Kitase also teased that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will feature new story elements and gameplay mechanics that will “surprise and delight” fans.

“We’re really excited to share more details about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with everyone soon,” said Kitase. “We’ve been hard at work on the game, and we can’t wait for players to experience the next chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 story.”
