In the realm of handheld gaming PCs, companies are taking two distinct paths – some are going bigger and more powerful, while others are embracing portability and convenience. Ayaneo’s latest creation, the Ayaneo Flip, falls squarely into the latter category, offering a compact PC that can easily fit into your back pocket. It’s the perfect way to relive the glory days of the Nintendo DS.

The first thing that catches your eye is the Flip’s sleek clamshell design. When you open it up, you’re greeted with a set of face buttons, a responsive d-pad, dual thumbsticks, and a miniature keyboard for quick and easy typing. What sets it apart is that it runs on Windows 11, making navigating the OS a breeze compared to using an on-screen keyboard for chatting with friends online. However, if you’ve ever used a BlackBerry or an Xbox 360 chat pad, you’ll know that tiny keyboards can be a challenge, especially for those with larger fingers.

According to the buzz on Ayaneo’s Discord channel, the Flip boasts a seven-inch display with an impressive 120Hz refresh rate. While it’s not clear whether it’s a touchscreen, there seems to be a small trackpad on the right side of the unit’s hinge. While the exact specs of this handheld are still under wraps, it’s expected to feature hardware similar to the Ryzen 7840U found in Ayaneo’s other popular handheld PCs.

Arthur Zhang, the CEO of Ayaneo, has spilled the beans on some performance details in the Discord community. He mentioned that the Flip will share specs with another Ayaneo creation, the Neo 2S, and will even incorporate the same advanced cooling technology.

Interestingly, the Flip isn’t Ayaneo’s first foray into handheld PCs with keyboards. They previously unveiled the Ayaneo Slide, which boasts a Nokia Sidekick-inspired display that hides a mini keyboard.

In a world where choices abound, it’s fascinating to see contrasting approaches to PC gaming handhelds. While Ayaneo is bringing the Flip to the table, Lenovo’s Legion Go with its detachable controllers that double as gaming mice is set to make waves soon. These two offerings represent the diverse landscape of PC gaming, where you’re spoiled for choice.
