Regrettably, scouring store shelves for a Baldur’s Gate 3 disc has proven futile. Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing at Larian, recently shared a tweet from an enthusiastic fan inquiring about the possibility of a physical release. Douse’s response, a simple “Bumping for interest,” indicates that Larian has not dismissed the idea outright.

This revelation comes hot on the heels of the announcement of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Japanese localization release date, slated for December 21 of this year. Whether this version will include English language support for Western audiences remains uncertain. Yet, with Douse’s tantalizing hint at a comprehensive physical release, the need to import the game from another region may soon become obsolete.

Douse further hinted that a physical version of the game might entail two discs, a logical move given the game’s substantial size. However, this dual-disc approach is likely for installation purposes, and gamers need not worry about reverting to the archaic practice of disc-swapping mid-playthrough.

The idea of a physical release after initially launching as a digital-only product is not entirely unexpected, especially given Baldur’s Gate 3’s segmented release schedule from the outset. The game debuted on PC roughly a month prior to its PS5 release, strategically avoiding the buzz surrounding Bethesda’s Starfield release. This strategy paid off, as Baldur’s Gate 3 secured a devoted player base before the arrival of Bethesda’s RPG. Now, we eagerly await the Xbox launch, which Larian promises will occur before the year’s end.
